Grey Whale
Grey Whale
This grey whale was stranded in the Klamath River in Northern California for two months in summer 2011. She became something of a local celebrity; tourists as well as locals watched her swim back and forth under the bridge on I-101.

This young red panda and its brother live at Eureka Zoo,
Humboldt County, Northern California. Here he is enjoying
an afternoon snack of fresh bamboo while watching the people
who are watching him..

Kneeland Road
Kneeland Road

Kneeland Road in Humboldt County on Northern California's Lost Coast framed by two live oaks. This dirt road through amber grass is an important link in the road system.
Tree-Topped Knoll
Tree-Topped Knoll

An autumnal scene of trees atop a roadside knoll in Humboldt County, Northern California shows that even California truly has seasons. Fallen leaves carpet the hill with amber.

Sunset Behind the Barn
Sunset Behind the Barn

In this unretouched landscape photograph, taken on Northern California's Lost Coast, the sun setting behind the barn backlights the barn while turning the clouds tangerine orange.
Regal Seagull
Regal Seagull

This seagull, sitting on the railing at the Boardwalk in Eureka, Humboldt County, Northern California, is lord of all he surveys.

Waiting Woman
Waiting Woman

The Waiting Woman has been gazing out at the sea waiting for her man to return to Trinidad Beach in Humboldt County, Northern California, for millenia. Her head points west above tilted slabs of rock forming breasts.
Fisherman Statue
Fisherman Statue

This statue of a fisherman manning his nets on his boat stands at Woodley Island Marina in Eureka, California, to commemorate all the local fishermen lost at sea.

River Reflections
River Reflections

Tree covered hills are mirrored in the deep blue still waters of the Russian River in Northern California in this landscape photograph. The stillness lasts for just a few minutes morning and evening, as the wind changes direction.
Stream Bower
Stream Bower

Water tumbles down a rocky rill in an upland stream, framed by spring leaves, evoking a sense of peace and contentment. All four of the traditional elements (rocks for earth, water, sunlight for fire, and leaves moving in the air) are represented in this photo.

White Pool
White Pool
White water foams over rocks dappled with sunlight into a paradoxically peaceful pool in an upland stream in Northern California.
Magic Rill
Magic Rill

Water tumbles over rocks (earth) lit by the fire of the sun, framed by spring leaves stirred by the wind of the air; all four elements are represented in this hidden pool in a roadside stream in Northern California.

Snowy Hills
Snowy Hills

Snow on the Coastal Range of Northern California. The hill in the foreground is blanketed in snow, while the mountians in the distance are dusted with snow under a clear blue sky.
Snow Trees
Snow and Trees

A winter wonderland of snow covered hills under a bright blue sky seen through a frame of snow dappled firs in Humboldt County, Northern California.

Wood Witch
Wood Witch

This surreal witch's profile is formed from the very structure of the tree itself, given definition and detail by the bark. The crone aspect of the goddess has her head turned away from the viewer. Her shiny nose is clearly visible above her jutting chin, with hair falling down on either side of her face. Above her nose, her eye appears to be closed.
Sidewalk Gratings
Sidewalk Gratings

Art is where you find it. I found this sidewalk grating walking along the waterfront. Its grill of interlaced circles form a knotwork pattern .The original photo is surrounded by eight color variations. The distorted perspective caused by the slight tilt in the original combined with rotating the surrounding grates gives an Escheresque feel to the piece.
