New Logos Designs at Cafepress/FogWeaver

I recently added three designs to CafePress in the Logos* category. Tee shirts and sweatshirts for men and women, buttons, stickers, bags, wall art, and housewares are available in all three designs. Two are quotations from Frederich Nietzche, the German existential philosopher, and one is from Kipling, British warrior/poet:

Abyss Gazes Back

Battle not with monsters,
Lest you become a monster.
If you gaze into the abyss,
The abyss gazes also into you.
Frederich Nietzche

Be careful when you fight monstersBe careful
When you fight monsters,
Lest you become one.
Frederich Nietzche

who what when where why howI keep six honest serving men,
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why
And When and How and Where and Who.
Rudyard Kipling, The Elephant’s Child

The Nietzche quotes seem particularly apt at this time, given our current War on Terror and War on Drugs: do these wars really protect us, or merely deprive us of our liberties and lower us to the level of those we are fighting? Meanwhile, we are discouraged by schools, the media, religion, and law enforcement from asking pesky questions. Yet only by questioning can we arrive at the truth.
I challenge you to use these products to question the status quo and encourage others to do the same.

*Logos is the Greek word for Word; it’s also a description of many of these designs, which look like logos.

Grey Whale

Grey Whale

This grey whale was stranded in the Klamath River in Northern California during June – August 2011. She became something of a local celebrity, with several blogs dedicated to her plight. Her pup eventually weaned and swam back to sea, but the mother remained in the river until her death August 16, 2011. Cause of death was not determined; she was well-norished until the end. Tourists as well as many locals visited her daily as she swam back and forth under the bridge on Highway 101. Some even seranaded her with violins, frame drums, and other instruments.

CafePress had just added some new products: it’s going to take some time to add all of these to my shop. Today’s project was pint glasses and shot glasses, available for Irish toasts, miscellaneous sayings, Celtic designs, and sacred knotwork for various religions. I’ve started adding oval 2″x4″ patches also; I’ll be adding more as soon as I update my artwork.

Shop News

Filed under: News — admin @ 8:59 am

Just spent the last week updating my CafePress shop. I’ve removed a number of designs that people didn’t seem to like, reorganized the rest, and changed the prices for my products. Some months ago, CafePress started experimenting with Marketplace prices and offered shopkeepers the option of tying the price of items in their shop to the Marketplace. At that time, the Marketplace prices were reasonable, and I felt that people should not be penalized by going through the Marketplace, so I did so. CafePress has continued to raise prices in the Marketplace to what the market will bear, which is far higher than I think reasonable. So I have reset my prices to about what they were before. Those who buy products from http://www.cafepress.com/fogweaver will ususally pay less than in the Marketplace, often far less.

Got Drums?

Got DrumsA design for Middle Eastern and African drummers and belly dancers, consisting of a djembe and a dumbek over the slogan “Got Drums?”. This design started off slow but has been gaining in popularity, much to my suprise. I originally did this more as an exercise in using my camera and Photoshop than in any real expectation that it would appeal to people, but it does, especially on dark t-shirts of various colors. Just goes to show, you never know what designs are going to be popular.

Harbingers

Harbingers

Harbingers

An original charcoal drawing of two crows sitting next to the pelvis of a skeleton, clearly an omen of things to come. This was created by covering the entire sheet of paper completely with charcoal, then erasing that which was not needed. Even the whitest whites still have a bit of charcoal embedded, while the darkest darks are completely black.  This black and white Halloween themed artwork is also appropriate for Gothic clothing and decor.
